Tony Mumford ~ Drummer

Tony

I started playing drums at the age of 12 and had my first full drum kit bought for me by my late parents for my 14th birthday. With lessons from my uncle Ken Mumford who was a terrific drummer I began playing in pubs and clubs around Sudbury with my first band the Generation Gap.

I then joined several local bands including Cliff’s band Quartz, then went on to join a Colchester based band called Stealer, who were the resident band at the Barn nightclub in Braintree, we were backing caberet's such as Jim Davidson, Hope and Keen, Peter Gordino etc. we played at other nightclubs including the Monico at Canvey Island and the Circus Tavern with Pans People.

After the nightclubs did not require live bands, to earn a living at drumming I sold my soul to the country devil and began to play country and western music with a band called "Jumping the Gun" with Terry Cifford (George Moody’s guitarist) and Brian Mann (the BBC radio Suffolk DJ.) and had my biggest gig in front of 7500 people at the Peterbough festival backing Tammy Jones.

I then gave up drumming and got a proper job and decided if I was to play again it would be music I liked, thats why I was pleased when Cliff asked me join the Lucans.
